Dear Congin families,
This afternoon, Westbrook Police received a report that a person was seen going through a dumpster on the Bridge Street side of Congin School and thought they might have something in their hand that resembled a weapon. Within minutes, WPD responded and the school was placed in a Secure Status. Secure Status means that all students and staff are kept safe inside the building going about business as usual, the perimeter is secured, and all outside doors are locked. This is our protocol whenever there is a threat or hazard outside of the building.
After assessing and searching the property, police officers did not find anyone matching that description and determined that there was no threat. The Secure Status was lifted and regular dismissal followed.
Thank you to the staff and students at Congin School and to Chief Lally and the WPD for their swift response.
Take care, and be strong.
