This afternoon, we were notified that Westbrook Police were investigating a situation, a hit and run accident in which the suspect fled and was last seen in the area near Westbrook Middle School. Out of an abundance of caution, the school was placed in a Secure Status. Secure Status means that all students and staff are kept safe inside the building going about business as usual, the perimeter is secured, and all outside doors are monitored and locked. This is our protocol whenever there is a threat or hazard outside of the building.
A K9 track and subsequent follow up determined that the suspect was no longer in the area. The Secure Status was lifted and regular dismissal followed.
Thank you to the staff and students at Westbrook Middle School School and the WPD for keeping us safe.
Take care, and be strong.
