Good Morning Congin Cougar Families,
Welcome back to our returning families, and welcome to our new families joining us! Congin is truly an amazing place to be due to our staff, students, and community, so we are gearing up for another fantastic school year!
Every Wednesday, I will be sending out our weekly newsletter to update you on school happenings, and to provide reminders of important dates! Here are some updates for this week:
It is Wednesday, so that means students will be dismissed at 2:20/30 (and Parent pick ups, please make sure that you are here to pick up students at 2:25).
We have had an amazing first few days with our students. They have come into the building and it is clear that they are excited for the school year. Our teachers have been working on building routines and expectations with students, and everyone has been doing a great job!
Today we will be having our first Congin Cougar assembly! Our returning families are familiar with this, but we focus on monthly themes and students are presented with a challenge for the month. For the month of September, we will be working on Responsibility, and students will be earning Congin Cougar paw stickers whenever they show an act of responsibility. We have a goal of 400 paws by the end of the month, and if we make our goal, we will have a spirit day in celebration! We might even have a special guest joining us at our assembly, so make sure to ask your child about it!
Many forms were sent home to families last week. Please make sure to fill out these forms and send them back into school. Be careful of the "Media Opt Out Form", as filling out this form indicates that you DO NOT want your child photographed and put on our website and Facebook page.
We have an amazing PTO that supports our staff and students throughout the year. Our PTO meets the second Monday of each month from 5:30-7:00pm in the Congin cafeteria. Our first meeting will be on Monday, September 8th! If you would like to attend the meeting, but you would like to do so virtually, here is the link to attend! We hope to see you there!
One of our areas of focus this year is attendance. It is imperative that students come to school every day to learn. Of course, when your child is sick with a fever, they must stay home, however, as soon as they have been fever-free for 24 hours, they should be coming to school. Additionally, all vacations and time away should be planned outside of the typical school day. I have attached our attendance protocol for you to refer to.
If you are planning on changing how your child is getting home, PLEASE make sure to contact your child's teacher and our administrative assistant, Stacy Symbol, before 12:00. The afternoon is an extremely busy time, and sometimes we cannot get your child to the right place, so it is imperative that you let us know before 12:00!
Just a general reminder that we open the doors to the school for buses at 8:25am. Parents must wait at the baseball field if you are going to be a parent drop off, as we need room for the buses to be able to leave our campus. Once buses leave, our amazing crossing guard, John, will signal families to come in for parent drop off. Students must be dropped off by 8:40am. If students are dropped off after that time, they will be considered tardy, and we will follow our attendance protocol which could eventually lead to a parent/administrative meeting. Thank you for your attention to this!
Additionally, if you are considering your child as a "walker" that means you are walking to and from school and picking your child up in the front of the building at the end of the day. If you are a walker, once the buses leave campus, please come to the front doors so that we can ensure all students find their parent/guardian. Please do not wait by the flagpole and/or fence by the playground and expect that your child will walk to you. I will remind families while we are outside when it is a good time to make your way to the front doors. Thank you for your help on this!
I am so excited to be working with all of you and your children this year. As I previously mentioned, I truly am lucky to be a part of the Congin community. Every year, I am always amazed by the growth and perseverance of our students, and I know this year is going to be another great year together. Please never hesitate to contact us with any questions or concerns that you might have.
It's a great day to be a cougar!
Sincerely,
Marc Bisson
